Devise a killer digital marketing strategy for your teaching business by answering two simple questions.
“Get yourself out there on social media” – seven words that every self-employed vocal coach has heard dozens of times.
But if you’re not a natural at social media, the thought of putting yourself “out there” or marketing yourself as an “expert” can be overwhelming.
Where do you start? How much time do you need to invest to reap results? And will you be trolled?
Before you get tangled up in these questions, heed the wise words of digital marketing guru and vocal coach Candi Louise.
Candi recently shared some brilliant tips for digital marketing newbies on the Singing Teachers Talk podcast. One of her most useful pieces of advice is about getting started.
The two questions to ask before you devise a digital marketing strategy
1 What makes you different?
All of us have something that makes us different – a unique selling point that sets up apart from other vocal coaches.
Start by making a list of what you’re good at. This could relate to your musical and performance background, or your own personal journey.
(To do this using a strategy called SWOT, dip into the podcast).
2 Figure out who you want to teach
Many singing teachers start their careers by working with any student who comes their way. This is understandable; when you’re building a business, you don’t want to turn anyone away, right?
But over time most coaches get a sense of the type of student that they enjoy teaching most, whether it be adult beginners, MT pros or children.
Candi’s point is that you don’t have to be all things to all people. There are only so many hours in the day so just focus on your ideal students.
